The Casselberry Police Department has confirmed the identities of the two victims killed in a tragic crash earlier this week, which authorities believe was caused by a suspected drug trafficker fleeing from a traffic stop. The victims are 42-year-old Christopher Marier and 40-year-old Tyler Marier.

Christopher Marier was an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, a family member confirmed to WESH 2 News. He joined UCF’s Department of Criminal Justice in August 2025 and quickly became a valued member of the academic community. The university shared a heartfelt statement, expressing their condolences: “We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Marier’s family, friends, students, colleagues, and all who knew him. Although his time at UCF was brief, Dr. Marier inspired students through his teaching, scholarship, and mentorship, and made meaningful contributions to our department. We are grateful for the impact he made on our community and mourn his loss.”

The department also highlighted Marier’s dedication and character, emphasizing how much he cared about his students and colleagues. “He was a bright, accomplished, and thoughtful scholar who cared deeply about those around him. We are grateful for the time we shared with him and the lasting impression he left,” they stated.

Police reports indicate that the crash occurred when a black sedan, operated by 26-year-old Marquavious Tayvon Wheaton, struck a gray SUV carrying the Marier brothers near Sunnytown Road. Wheaton was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he is currently in custody. His condition remains unknown. Authorities confirmed that Wheaton is the operator of the at-fault vehicle involved in the collision.

Multiple agencies, including the Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Winter Springs police departments, and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, assisted at the scene.
